TRAINING FOR FIRST RESPONDER AGENCIES
It is crucial for fire departments and other first responder organizations to educate their members on occupational and psychological hazards and challenges unique to the workplace. This includes providing information on available interventions and psychological support. As a leader, promoting ethical decision-making requires training officers on the code of ethics and providing opportunities to problem-solve complex situations before encountering them in the field. Dr. Wheldon, a master trainer with experience working with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and teaching at the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer (EFO) program, can provide valuable training on topics such as effective communication, de-escalation techniques and suicide prevention/intervention.
